Ron Hextall

A pure unadulterated goalie if there ever was one. For many years, I remember watching him bust up ankles and make the front of his net miserable for the opposing team. I was a goalie for many years and he definitely was a reason why I became one. With his mean temper and excellent puck handling skills, he was always a treat to watch.
Drafted in the 6th round, he was most certainly a diamond in the rough. He was a member of the Melville Millionaires (SJHL), Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL), Kalamazoo Wings (IHL), Hershey Bears (AHL), Philadelphia Flyers (NHL), Quebec Nordiques (NHL) and New York Islanders (NHL). He played most of and finished his NHL career in Philadelphia.
He had numerous awards and accomplishments. He won the Vezina Trophy in 86/87 and Con Smythe in 86/87. BORING!!!!
Scored his first goal against the Boston Bruins (first goal in a regulation game) on December 8, 1987
Scored a goal against the Washington Capitals (first goal in Stanley Cup play) on April 11, 1989.
Suspended the first 12 games of 89/90 for attacking Chris Chelios in a playoff game.
Suspended 8 games for slashing, May 1987
